K-Drama Review: The King of Dramas [Complete]

“Dreams aren’t something to look back on when you grow older; it is there to be pursued." -Anthony Kim, The King of Dramas.
You don't wanna miss this right?

Introduction
The King of Drama has a unique Korean Drama genre which one shouldn’t miss. It is a satirical drama about behind the scenes of drama making. Although this drama was not heavily promoted internationally ( at least for me), the title caught my attention because of the drama trailer showed in its preceded drama- Faith, the Great Doctor.

Theme: Behind-the-scenes of Drama Production
Genre : Satire, Comedy, Romance
Plot :
The King of Dramas revolves around Anthony Kim (Kim Myung-min), the brilliant CEO of a drama production company who will do anything and everything for the sake of money, fame and success. He is known to possess the Midas touch as he has created blockbuster dramas and Hallyu stars. When a death on the set precipitates his fall from grace, Anthony attempts to regain his former status by putting the drama The Morning of Keijo on air. And to accomplish that, he needs the help of idealistic Lee Go-eun (Jung Ryeo-won), who dreams of becoming a top writer someday, and the handsome but egoistic actor Kang Hyun-min (Choi Siwon). First Impression
When I watch the first episode, the acting and theme was mind blowing. I was instantly captivated by Anthony Kim (played by Kim Myung-min ) who is an egoistic and confident CEO who will do anything and everything for the sake of money, fame and success. He is meticulous with mathematical details that he spell his success using percentages. He claim the ring he wear as ‘Lord of the Rings’ and people call him the King of Dramas.

Why you would like this drama?
I have to say that all the actors (main and side cast) in this drama stand out in their roles. The reason why this drama was underrated and not so popular was most probably due to MBC’s The King’s Doctor which aired at the same time. If you check out the ratings and the director, you would probably know why.
However, this drama is directed by the same director for You’re Beautiful which is one my favourites.  You would be really impressed by the entire storyline; for me, it became the top must watch on my drama list along with Dong Yi.

Specialties I find
This is not the typical love-hate or comedy-romance drama you find in other dramas. This is a series of “behind-the-scenes” of drama making and the desires of people to pursue ambitions. The attraction was there because this drama seems more realistic rather than fantasy, showing company politics, desires to grab high viewership ratings and some people who stay true to their integrity toward professionalism.

Ratings:
Plot:  «««««
Storyline is written quite well, you won’t get confused with the situation. It even has comedic and satirical elements throughout the whole drama and which you can even see it from the first episode onwards.

Acting: «««««
The actors are really good and impressive. The way all the actors portray their characters including the antagonist of the story are really good. You wouldn’t want to miss Siwon’s acting too as his character is quite fun to watch.

Overall: ««««« Thumbs Up J
There are some romantic comedy elements that added up the spice in the story which would definitely make you laugh, squirm in your chair and put on the silly smile. All in all, I would say that you would definitely fall in love with this drama. I can guarantee that!

Special screen shot- Kang Hyun Min(Siwon)
